Karneval is shoujo series written and illustrated by Mikanagi Touya. It currently runs under the Monthly Comic Zero Sum by Ichijinsha since August 2007. There are currently 4 volumes out; 5th one is scheduled to be released on March 25, 2010. The series has been recently adapted to drama cds: the first one was released early January 2010 titled Karneval - Wings that cannot fly and the second one, Karneval - Circus, is scheduled to be released on the same day as the 5th volume.
Flowers for a ghost; where'd you go?. Of harsh pasts concealed underneath their sullen gaze. Of soundless questions and ceaseless mysteries itching to erupt. And of furtive dreams to reach the light across from the dusk and dreary tunnel ...
Karneval opens with Nai reminiscing about Karoku, worriedly wondering where his current whereabout is; his only clue of Karoku's locaton is the pool of "red water" he'd found at their place as well as a "bracelet." Determined, Nai desperately ventures into the city, only to find himself, not a moment too soon, captured. Next thing he knew, he was brought into a bizarre mansion whose mistress, Mine, reek of trouble. She does after all, plan to play with Nai until she tires; she will eventually devour him then.
Just outside the mansion, Gareki and his group prepare their heist. With the signal of cleared security, he detonates an explosive right at the top and ushers his companions to go inside - though not before warning them that they should not touch any woman who aren't involve. Naturally, this capture's Mine's attention, halting her attack on Nai. Right as Mine came out of the room to "clean," Gareki then enters with a loud bang, unknowingly sealing his fate as he strike a "deal" with Nai. Through discords and mishaps, both boys eventually find themselves in contact with Circus, the country's most powerful defense organization.
